Our history of involvement with coffee cultivation has extended nearly a century and a half. It was in 1879 that José Carlos' grandfather, Antônio Grossi migrated from the region of Veneto, Italy, during the period of Italian immigration to Brazil with the objective of working in the coffee plantations inside the country, in São Paulo state. That way, begins the family's first contacts with coffee.

Years later, the son of Antônio and father of José Carlos, Matheus Grossi, decides to invest in the dream of the family and begins his first plantations of coffee, acquiring, in 1950, a small property in the Northwest of Paraná.

Born in the interior of São Paulo, in the city of Garça, JCG, whenever he could, helped his father in the coffee small farm, and so he joined the ESALQ / USP Agricultural College in 1966. He devoted five years of his life exclusively to the learning and deep knowledge of the technical means of agriculture to be able to devote himself to the passion acquired by coffee cultivation.

This family passion passed from generation to generation took José Carlos Grossi to leave his father's fields in Paraná in 1972 and to plant his first coffee plantations in the previously unknown Cerrado Mineiro Region.

It was after graduating in Agricultural College at the renowned ESALQ / USP, that José Carlos, with $ 10,000 of his savings for his work, marks the beginning of the history of the JC Grossi & Filhos brand. As difficult as starting a coffee crop on unfamiliar soil was to make this crop productive. At that time, the techniques we use today were completely unknown.

After many years of effort and investment in the crops, his work began to consolidate. In 1991, José Carlos Grossi & Filhos started investing in the production of high quality coffees with a negotiation strategy, in which a good part of the coffees produced, were traded in a differentiated market.

Seeking to obtain quality consistency in coffee production, the Grossi Group adopted the strategy of verticalization of production activities, which gave it greater quality control and traceability of the coffees produced.

Feeling the need to carry out a research work to develop genetic materials that adapted to the climatic and soil conditions of the cerrado, in 1994, together with other institutions, the Grossi Group created its first experimental field, the Chácara Modelo, which today has expanded and continues to innovate.

In 1999, it was created the company Alto Cafezal Comércio, Importação e Exportação Ltda. The company was created with the intention of making direct sales in response to the growing demand of the international market for high quality and origin set out coffees.

Thinking of ensuring the sustainability of agricultural activity, in 2005, the family enterprise joined the UTZ Certified and Rainforest Alliance Agricultural Certification.

In 2008, another company of the group was created, the Alto Paranaíba Armazéns Gerais. A company created to serve not only JC Grossi & Filhos but also other coffee producers and exporters. A company of storage and preparation of coffee, that counts on specialized professionals and cutting-edge machinery.

Keeping the tradition together with the ability to think ahead, passed from parents to sons, through family succession, now, who leads the companies of the Grossi Group, are the sons of José Carlos Grossi. With a different look at the new market, they bring knowledge and innovation, contributing to our growth.
